A large number of reports have flooded in just this year, with increased sightings in 36 of the 50 states. Over a hundred sightings were logged by NUFORC on New Year's Eve with 13 sightings reported in Florida.
On December 11, 2011 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, three people see an estimated 8 orange objects pass from south to north in the night sky, covering approximately 60 degrees of arc in an estimated five minutes. Two more lights appeared shortly after the first group had disappeared, and followed approximately the same path as the first group had followed.
Almost a full month earlier in Berlin, Wisconsin, a woman driving home from work encountered a car stopped on a rural highway. She drives past the other vehicle slowly, rounds the next curve, and then witnesses a bizarre curved row of quadrilateral lights ahead of her. The lights appear to be moving away from her position, and then they suddenly begin to disappear from her sight, as if a curtain is being drawn over them.
NUFORC staff members have posted hundreds of reports similar to these on their website , following what they say has been a "Herculean session of proof-reading."
FOX 35 spoke with Peter Davenport, NUFORC Director, to find out what's behind the increased number of sightings.
