So far, the library's elves have digitized around 10,000 of the six million items in the collection, but they plan to add more on a regular basis. The first batch comprises recordings from between 1901 and 1925, and includes everything from opera and blues vocals, to whistling, comedy acts and speeches. Sony has been a major early supplier, providing access to all of the early 20th century recordings they own the rights to.
The recordings can be browsed in a bunch of different ways, and you can create your own playlists or simply play one selected by the LoC staff.
Did I mention that it's all free?
